Goodwater, Alabama has attractions that range from historical to recreational. The most popular attraction is Lake Martin, which is a 44,000-acre impoundment on the Tallapoosa River with 750 miles of scenic shoreline. Lake Martin is one of the largest artificial lakes in the United States and is arguably the most popular recreational reservoir in the state of Alabama. Thousands of visitors flock to Lake Martin each year for play and relaxation, as it provides ample opportunities to anglers and boaters. Lake Martin has many unique landmarks, including several small islands and the Kowaliga Bridge, a golf course and several marinas. However, the most recognized landmark is probably Chimney Rock, also called Acapulco Rock, which is a huge rock formation that resembles a chimney. Many fishing tournaments are held at Lake Martin and a huge Fourth of July fireworks show is held here each year. Other activities around the lake include camping, picnicking, hiking, swimming and other water sports. The Lake Martin Amphitheater is a natural, open-air venue that provides artistic and musical events throughout the year. With panoramic views of Big Kowaliga Basin on Lake Martin, it's the perfect setting to enjoy cultural events of every kind for the whole family.

Wind Creek State Park is located on the north end of Lake Martin and offers one of the largest campsites in Alabama. The park also provides wet boat storage, paved boat ramp access, a marina, full-service store and bait shop, swimming and beach area, hiking trails and picnic areas. Wind Creek has 635 campsites on 1400 wooded acres and attracts anglers and boaters from all across the country. Other Goodwater attractions include Horseshoe Bend Military Park, which is dedicated to the memory of the U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814. The park has a visitor center and museum on site and 2.8 miles of hiking trails that meander along the Tallapoosa River. A self-guided tour takes visitors through the battlefield area. Horseshoe Bend also offers a picnic area and historical re-enactment. Hatchet Creek is a beautiful place for canoeing that is well known to locals but fairly secluded and unknown to others. It runs approximately 41 miles northeast to southwest, originating near Goodwater and terminating into Lake Mitchell.

Sightseeing in the Goodwater/Coosa County area should include a stop at the Old Rock Jail in the tiny town of Rockford. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this striking structure provides a glimpse into the past, as well as many photographic opportunities. Nearby Alexander City provides plenty of dining and shopping experiences, whether you're looking for antiques, bargain shopping or that special souvenir. Alex City has department stores and nationally recognized franchises, as well as unique locally owned establishments that offer a “hometown appeal” to their shopping. In addition, Alexander City offers culture and arts and entertainment for all ages, everything from concerts to art exhibits.
